Convocation 2013 

In keeping with India's vision to become a world leader in science and Technology and to usher in a new revolution, resulting in an unprecedented economic growth, Government of India reassessed the need of technical manpower and decided to set up eight new Indian Institute of Technology (IITs). Six of these started functioning from the Academic Year(AY) 2008-09. These were established at Hyderabad, Gandhinagar, Rajasthan, Ropar, Patna and Bhubaneswar. IIT Indore and IIT Mandi started functioning from July 2009. Indian Institute of Technology Indore is located in Madhya Pradesh(MP), is an Institute of national importance. This functions under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India(GOI). In the beginning the Institute started functioning under the mentorship of IIT Bombay. At present the Institution is operating independently from two of its temporary campuses at Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) of Devi Ahilyabai University and another at Pithampur Auto Cluster Limited (PACL), Mohw. Permanent campus of the Institute is being developed at Simrol, 25 km from the city of Indore.
The Institute is organizing its First Convocation Ceremony on 8th June 2013, in which 101 B.Tech. students of the pioneer batch are going to be awarded the degree. The Honorable President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee will be the Chief Guest.
Important Dates

Reporting for attending convocation and full dress rehearsal: 4th June 2013

Convocation ceremony: 8th June 2013
Please ensure that your answers to the following questions are 'YESs'

Have you registered for the convocation ceremony?

Have you submitted all the required forms for graduation to the academic office?

Have you enquired about the dress-code for the convocation ceremony?

Have you coordinated with the concerned office for your stay?

Have you understood the program flow communicated to you?

Have you informed the institute authority about special assistance (if any)?

Have you retained the Security Pass to gain access to the venue of convocation?
Institute will provide free accommodation to the graduating students and their accompanying guests at Institute hostels from 4th June to 8th June, 2013.
Transport: Institute buses will run from Indore Railway station to Silver Springs on hourly basis from 6 AM to 10 PM on 6th and 7th June, 2013. As of now, since only a few people have informed their arrival by bus, they are requested to go to the Railway Station from the bus stand and board the institute bus from there to Silver Springs.
Students' guests arriving by flight are requested to inform the institute transport section (+917509062831 / +918818800915) to give the time of arrival. Those arriving on 4th or 5th June, 2013 are also requested to call up the institute transport section at least an hour before reaching the station so that transportation can be arranged accordingly.

Important: Please be advised not to go to the convocation venue directly. You must reach Silver Springs by 8.30 AM on 8th June, 2013 and from there, institute buses will take you to the Convocation Venue between 8.30 AM and 9.15 AM.

Kindly carry your security pass bearing the bar code at all times.

A Portrait Photographer will be available at the site of the convocation. Please register at the academic office if you wish to avail this facility.

o When will I receive my invitation to attend Convocation?
Invitation cards will be sent to all eligible students both electronically and by post latest by 20th May 2013. If you do not receive your invitation by then, please contact the Academic office. Security passes will be issued to the students from the helpdesk at Silver Spring Hostel from 4th June, 2013 onwards. All the students are required to mandatorily carry their security passes issued form IITI while approaching the convocation venue at Simrol on the day of convocation, failing which the students will not be permitted to enter the convocation hall.

o How do I RSVP for Convocation?
Students must respond online using the Student Response Form.

o What are the deadlines for graduating?
Applications for Graduation must be submitted latest by May 15, 2013 and all requirements must be met in order to participate in the July Convocation ceremony.

o How many guests am I allowed to bring?
To facilitate each student and his/her family to fully participate in the Convocation, each student may be accompanied by four guests.

o What do I need to do before I can graduate?
You must have completed all academic requirements before you submit the Convocation form.
Fill out an IIT Indore Convocation Form.

o What do I wear underneath the grad gown?
For both Boys and Girls, formal black or dark colored trouser with white full sleeve shirt and institute neck tie** to compliment your dressing.

** Necktie may be purchased from the Institute.


o Can I purchase a graduation gown?
NO, convocation gowns are not for sale, all the students are suppose to return it after the convocation. However you may buy Institute necktie.

o How will my name appear on the degree certificate?
Your name will appear on your certificate as recorded in the official student record of IIT Indore.

o How can I arrange to get a graduation portrait taken?
A portrait photographer will be available at site of the convocation to take your picture in a gown and hood. Further details are available at: www.iiti.ac.in/convocation/memorabilia

o I have responded to the Convocation invitation indicating that I would attend the ceremony, but am no longer able to do so. Who should I contact?
Please contact the Convocation office.

o I am unable to attend the convocation ceremony. Can someone else receive my degree certificate on my behalf?
We do not allow degree certificates to be collected by anyone else.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:
  • Kindly reach the convocation venue before 10:00 AM in order to complete security formalities and be seated by 10:30 AM.
  • Kindly bring the enclosed security pass (non-transferable). The pass admits the addressee only.
  • No personal objects will be allowed into the convocation hall, including large bags, mobile phones, cameras, other electronic devices . All such gadgets need to be deposited at the security check-point itself.
  • Guests are requested not to leave their seat during the Convocation.
  • Children below 8 years of age are not allowed to enter the convocation venue.
  • In case of medical emergency, please contact help desk at the reception area or call +91 75090 62832 so that the medical team can provide support.
  • In case of any need, please avail support from our volunteers (identified by large red badge) or call +91 75090 62837.
  • Security agencies may request a photo ID to be shown. Kindly cooperate.

Parking Instruction
  • Invitees are advised to leave personal vehicles at the IET campus of the institute on Khandwa Road or at Silver Springs, Agra-Bombay bypass in order to avoid congestion at the Convocation Venue. Institute buses have been arranged from IET to Convocation Venue and from Silver Springs to Convocation Venue every 30 mins from 7.30 AM till 9.30 AM.
