Dr. Manavendra Mahato is an IIT Bombay alumnus who received B. Tech degree in Engineering physics with institute silver medal in 2001. He pursued his PhD degree I University of Michigan, Ann arbor in theoretical physics for his research in relations between gauge theories and theories of gravitation. He was a visiting fellow in Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai doing research in relations between hydrodynamics and theories of gravitation. He is currently faculty in physics department in IIT Indore since 2010.
His research involves theories of gravity which contain a lot of information about its boundary encoded in its geometry. The information about the boundary may correspond to some quantum field theory such as non-Abelian Yang Mills theory, conformal field theory, or a condensed matter theory or fluid dynamics. Since the boundary theory has one less dimension, this relation is called holographic principleor gauge/gravity correspondence Most concrete and well studied version is known as AdS/CFT ( anti de Sitter/ conformal field theory) correspondence.
