Registration and Orientation Day (23rd July, 2010)
Indian Institute of Technology Indore (IIT Indore) organized "Registration and Orientation Programme for the 2010 B.Tech Batch." In Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, 40, 41 and 42 students including 6 Preparatory Course students from JEE 2009 were admitted respectively. The Orientation Programme included a Welcome Address by the Director, IIT Indore, Professor Pradeep Mathur. Prof. Mathur said that, "IIT Indore, though a new IIT will maintain the standard of the older IITs in academics and research. It also looks forward to reach new heights in research." He also mentioned about the modern academic facilities available at the institute that include a virtual classroom, modern teaching facilities in the classrooms, modern computer center, an ever-growing library, and well equipped undergraduate physics and chemistry laboratories which are probably amongst the best of the undergraduate laboratories in the country. Professor Neelesh Jain gave details of the academic programme and curriculum and the registration process. The academic programme and curriculum at IIT Indore is approved by the Academic Council at IIT Bombay. The programme is especially designed for the overall students' development and includes courses from Humanities and Social Sciences. These courses give a humanistic edge to the engineering education at the institute. Prof. T.K. Sarma talked about the achievements of the students in 2009 at Inter IIT Sports Meet that was held at IIT Kanpur. He also encouraged students to come forward and take active part in sports and other cultural activities. The plan to have an institute cultural fest is also underway. The programme ended with the vote of thanks. The process of students' registration went on smoothly.
Board of Governors Visit Simrol Site
(15th June, 2010)
The Indian Institute of Technology Indore's Board of Governors along with the faculty members visited Simrol, the site for the upcoming campus of IIT Indore. Mr. Ajay Piramal is the Chairman of the Board that includes eminent personalities from the industry, academia and central and state government. The work on the site for campus building is in progress Mr. A. Pandey, Estate Officer cum Project Engineer of IIT Indore, gave a short presentation at the site about the various aspects related to the campus development. Currently, IIT Indore has got possession of the 432 acres of land out of the 502 acres required for institute building. All board members expressed a keen desire to the time when the remaining land can be handed over to the institute. The visit to Simrol was preceded by the Board of Governors first meeting at the Institute, a historic moment for IIT Indore.
