Computational Astrophysics @ IIT Indore
Computational astrophysics opens new windows in the way we perceive and study the heavens. This rapidly growing new discipline in astronomy combines modern computational methods and algorithms to simulate and analyze data so as to discover new phenomena, and to make predictions in astronomy, cosmology and planetary sciences.
CASIO will cover research interests in a wide range of topics closely associated with Computational and theoretical aspects of Astrophysics. In particular, the main aim of this group will be to develop synthetic observatories for multiple astrophysical sources to bridge state-of- the-art simulations for predicting observational features with existing and up-coming observatories like ALMA, Lofar, SKA, TMT and CTA.
PhD oppurtunities are available particularly focusing on
studying the multi-physical and multi-wavelength nature of Astrophysical jets
observed from both Young Stellar Objects (YSOs) and Active Galactic Nuclei
PhD projects aiming to study the origin of multi-wavelength nature of Supernova remnants (SNRs), properties of supersonic magnetized turbulence in the Galaxy Clusters, Micro-physical nature of Astronomical Plasma flows, space weather modeling and properties of triggered star formation are also on offer for interested students.
Motivated individuals with leadership skills, strong analytical mindset and dedication to learn exciting new things in Astrophysics are welcome to apply for PhD in this group. Potential applicants should have M.Sc (in Physics, Astronomy or related field) either with NET-JRF, DST-INSPIRE (or equivalent) Fellowship or should have GATE qualification. Outstanding applicants with M.Tech degree with considerable computational experience are also encouraged to apply.

Applications for internships and short term projects on computational astrophysics from potential candidates are also welcome. Motivated students who are in the pre-final year of B.E/B.Tech/M.Sc/M.Tech or final year B.Sc. or within 6 months after the completion of their B.E/B.Tech/B.Sc/M.Sc/M.Tech, can undertake a short- term project.
