Overview of the Proposed Course This course is very relevant for the Indian Space program and provides a unique opportunity for academic researchers and faculty of technical colleges to explore about the recent developments in this field. Course will be beneficial to faculty and researchers, who are aspiring to pursue their career in the field of Space Engineering and Technology. The course will provide basic concept of satellite based navigation, space weather and wave propagation, Indian own GPS like system, NavIC, and potential challenges and application of Space Weather in other engineering sectors.
Resource Persons 1. Dr. Ashish K. Shukla, SAC, ISRO 2. Dr. Abhirup Datta, IIT Indore 3. Dr. Saurabh Das, IIT Indore 4. Dr. Bhargav Vaidya, IIT Indore 5. Dr. Manoneeta Chakraborty, IIT Indore 6. Dr. Suman Majumdar, IIT Indore
Tentative schedule The course comprises of lectures and lab sessions. Everyday there will be three lectures of one hour duration (with a break of 5 minutes after each lecture) in first half of the day and there will a lab session/ Interaction session of four hours duration in later part of the day. On the last day the session will be followed by feedback & experience sharing and valedictory sessions.
Tentative Topics to be Covered in the Course The course will cover basic concepts of navigation, architechture and operation of GPS and NavIC, Error sources and modelling of the same for GPS navigation, Random process and statistical inference, introduction to space weather and sun, modelling of space weather, and potential applications of GPS/GNSS. Lab sessions will include programming using Python and Matlab.
How will this short- term course benefit teachers? GNSS and space weather are vital components of space research. With the recent thrust by the Govt. in space and defense sector, the knowledge on related subjects are of utmost important for future engineering students. This course will help teachers to improve the skill and knowledge on these subjects.
