Overview of the Proposed Course

Department of Astronomy, Astrophysics and Space Engineering, IIT Indore is happy to announce the AICTE sponsored QIP Short Term Course on "Remote Sensing for Space and Atmosphere” to be held during April 25 - 30, 2022. Due to COVID-19 situation, this time it will be through online mode and there is no registration fee for faculty participants from AICTE approved colleges and institutes.


This course is very relevant for the Indian Space program and provides a unique opportunity for academic researchers and faculty of technical colleges to explore about the recent developments in this field. Course will be beneficial to faculty and researchers, who are aspiring to pursue their career in the field of Remote Sensing technology and its application.

 

The course will provide basic concept of remote sensing technologies, introduce the various applications using these techniques. The course will also introduce Geographic Information System to the participants. The course will involve theory and tutorial sessions with special emphasis on introducing participants to data processing tools such as Google Earth Engine, Sentinel Applications Platform (SNAP) and QGIS. The participants will be able to apply the concepts using real-world satellite imagery.

 

Course will be relevant to faculty and researchers, particularly in the inter disciplinary field of Remote sensing, Atmospheric science, Earth Sciences, Geo-informatics, Agriculture, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, ECE, CE and CSE/IT.


The participants will receive a certificate after successful completion of the course.

 

Tentative Topics to be Covered in the Course 
MODULE-I: Remote Sensing Basics and Applications
MODULE-2: Passive Remote Sensing, ML in remote sensing
MODULE-3: Active Remote Sensing – Synthetic Aperture Radar
MODULE-4: Data analysis, GIS and Google Earth Engine
MODULE-5: Multispectral and Hyperspectral remote sensing

MODULE-6: Remote Sensing of atmosphere and space weather

MODULE-7: Drone and GPS/GNSS in remote sensing

 

Intended Participants (Who can attend?) 


The teachers of the AICTE approved Engineering Colleges are eligible under this scheme. Faculty members from the streams such as Electrical / Electronics & Communication Engineering, Computer Science, Civil Engeering, Physics, Mathematics, Earth Science, Remote sensing and other related streams can apply under this program. The seats are limited, which would be filled on first come first serve basis and the candidate’s field of research interest. Participants other than teachers of AICTE approved colleges (students and participants from industry etc.) can also attend the course by paying a fee.
