Candidates from the IS or SW category can enrol for PG and PhD programs as part-time candidates, subject to the following rules (which may be amended from time to time):

1. An IS category applicant must be a permanent Institute employee for the last two years at the time of application. An SW category applicant should have a minimum of two years' work experience in a reputed Industrial/Research Organization.
2. The part-time candidate will not be entitled to any fellowship/stipend during the academic program.
3. The IS category applicant must submit a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Head of the concerned department/section; the SW category applicant must submit the NOC from the Competent Authority of their parent organization along with the prescribed application form.
4. The IS applicant's NOC must state that the candidate is allowed to pursue the program part-time and that admission will not affect their assigned duties. The SW applicant's NOC must state that the sponsoring organization will fully relieve them of duties during the required course work (part-time) / entire duration (full-time).
5. Part-time SW category students must complete the required course work on a full-time residential basis.
6. An SW candidate may have one external thesis co-supervisor from their parent organization, with consent of the Principal Supervisor (a faculty member of IIT Indore), who remains solely responsible for the candidate's academic requirements. Minimum experience for the external supervisor: 5 years post-PhD, 10 years post-PG (M.Tech/ME/ MPhil), or 15 years post-qualification (BE/B.Tech/MCA/MBA/MSc/MCom/MA or equivalent), in a reputed Industrial/Research Organization.
7. Eligibility, application, admission, registration fee/process, and academic rules are the same as for full-time students.
8. IIT Indore holds exclusive copyright on the PhD/PG thesis of SW category students; patents and innovations are governed by the IPR policy of IIT Indore.
9. The Institute reserves the right to cancel or renew IS/SW admission in case of a change of employment.

Eligibility Requirements

1. The sponsoring College/Institute/University must be among the top 100 NIRF-ranked institutions in its category in the immediately preceding year.
2. The applicant must be a permanent employee of the sponsoring organization, which must certify in the No Objection-cum-Sponsoring-Experience Certificate that it will continue paying the candidate's remuneration for the entire full-time PhD duration.
3. The applicant should have at least one publication in an SCI-indexed journal or a peer-reviewed international conference/book chapter, or hold a patent, or have developed state-of-the-art patentable/transferable technology.
4. Candidates are admitted as full-time PhD candidates initially for 3 years; the sponsoring organization certifies the candidate will be relieved of all duties to complete the PhD full-time within that period. Extensions require an application through the sponsoring organization to IIT Indore's competent authority.

Minimum Educational Qualification: as per the PhD advertisement of the concerned Discipline/School/Center.

Other Rules and Regulations

1. Candidates pay the semester registration fee applicable to full-time PhD students, with exemptions for: (a) Group Insurance Premium and Medical Fee if not availing medical facilities; (b) Mess Security Deposit and Dining charges if not availing dining facilities; (c) Hostel Security Deposit and Accommodation charges if not availing hostel facilities.
2. All PhD program rules and regulations of IIT Indore apply to CT category students.
3. Course work, selection of thesis supervisor(s), and constitution of the PG Student Progress Committee (PSPC) follow the applicable rules of IIT Indore.
4. Comprehensive Evaluation of Research Progress (CERP) is conducted per Institute policy for full-time PhD students; if converted to part-time, CERP is conducted every 6 months before the thesis (XX 899) grade submission deadline for that semester.
5. Maximum duration for completion of the PhD program is 6 years, as applicable to full-time PhD students of IIT Indore.
